What to Bring On A Pack-In

Radios, CD Players, and Handheld Games are allowed in the cars on the way up and back only.  Remember the cars will be parked unsupervised for two days and anything left inside is subject to being stolen.  Please don’t bring anything you are not willing to loose.

 Remember, your pack should weigh as little as possible, ¼ of your body weight would be ideal, no more than 1/3 of your body weight.  Remember lighter is better.  Make sure the heavier stuff is packed in the bottom of your pack.

BI:   Bag-It, Where you see this it means to bag these items individually.  This will keep things organized.  It will also keep things from spilling on others or keep things dry if it rains.  Use 1-gallon zip locks or size appropriate.

Basic Equipment:

  1. Backpack (Internal or External Frame)  Large enough to carry all your gear.
  2. Tent (Small Light-weight preferably)  Split up and share with a buddy if needed.
  3. Sleeping bag (Light-weight)  Carry in a stuff sack that is waterproof in case it rains.
  4. Compact Pillow (optional)
  5. Ground Cloth for under tent.  (optional)
  6. Sleeping pad or mat.  (For comfort and to keep warm if it is cold)
  7. Hiking Stick (optional)

 Cooking Equipment:

  1. Single burner stove, fuel, and matches or lighter.
  2. Water Bottles with water.  At least three 1/2 Liter bottles or a canteen of at least 1/2 gal.
  3. Mess kit, cup, fork, knife, spoon.  BI
  4. Kitchen kit  (Any utensils needed to prepare your meals, soap, scrub pad, etc.)  BI 
  5. Gloves for handling hot items. (optional)

 Clothing:  All Clothing Should Be Bagged In Case It Rains!!! 

  1. T-Shirts – 2
  2. Pants – Check the weather for long or short.  Zip-off legs work well.
  3. Extra Underwear and Socks
  4. Hat
  5. Sleeping hat if it is cold
  6. Sweatshirt or jacket or both if it is cold.
  7. Gloves if it is cold.
  8. Hiking boots or Tennis Shoes
  9. Long johns if it is cold.

 Hygiene Items:  All Hygiene Items Should Be Bagged!! 

  1. Toothbrush and small toothpaste
  2. Camp soap and Waterless hand sanitizer
  3. Toilet paper (partial roll)
  4. Washcloth and small towel.
  5. Brush or comb (optional)

 Other Items:  

  1. Small Flashlight and extra batteries.
  2. Headlight flashlight. (optional)
  3. Rain Gear
  4. Small First Aid Kit (5-10 Band-aids, antiseptic wipes, prescription medicines, etc)   BI  
  5. Extra Zip-Lock Bags 2 or 3 for trash etc.
  6. Small Pocketknife.
  7. Compass (optional)
  8. Sunscreen, lip balm, Insect Repellent

 Extra Items:  All Optional

  1. Camera and film  BI
  2. Football, Frisbee, etc.
  3. Notepad and pen
  4. Small hip pack for day hikes.

 

FOOD:  Meal Suggestions.

 Zip Lock each meal individually to keep them separate and to put your trash in when finished.  Remember when setting your menu that there is no refrigeration.

Instant Oatmeal
Granola Bars
Pancakes (Just add water type mix)  and Syrup make sure you bring a spatula.
Pop Tarts

Peanut butter sandwich & chips
Beef Stick, Cheese (the kind that does not need to be refrigerated) and crackers
Vienna Sausages and crackers
Tuna fish snack pack
Lunchables
Cup-of-Soup or canned soup
Romen Noodles

DINNER  BI

Chili and Fritos
Canned Beef Stew (Can Opener if Needed)
Backpacking Dinners (Sold at Academy)

SNACKS  BI

Remember to bring some snacks such as:
Beef Jerky
Trail mix
Granola Bars
Hot Cocoa Mix
Dried Fruit
